DIGNIFIED BELLY FLOPS Remember when you were a kid and thought that belly flopping off of the diving board was fun?🤪 . I call this movement a “dignified” belly flop because it doesn’t sting when you land on your belly.🐝 . It’s a great way to strengthen your hip and spinal flexors, latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior ECCENTRICALLY. It’s also a great way to challenge stability in upward rotation of the scapula. . Can you see how this is a great drill to prep for Down Dog, handstand, planks, hollow body holds and more? . If you are a Pilates lover try this to prep for LONG STRETCH on the reformer:-). . There are the people who have to be in the shortest line because it's the most productive and then are people who don't care which line to get in because they'll get there eventually(GOALS). . At grocery stores, there's also the self checkout people, absolute rebels. Especially the ones who have MORE than 15 items. They are anarchy personified. Those Rose's don't care what anyone thinks and they honestly don't care about the rest of us Jack's without a door to float on. . Which one are you? What’s the best way to prepare your eggs? Hard boiled eggs will lose a lot of antioxidants. Oven baked eggs (as in muffins) have less than 50% of the amount of vitamin D than raw eggs. If you add water to your omelette the water that ‘escapes’ will remove water-soluble vitamins such as vitamins B12. Raw eggs have all the good stuff, but your body isn’t capable of absorbing all the protein: only 50%. There’s also a risk of salmonella poisoning with raw eggs. You’ll absorb 88% of the protein when you cook your eggs. The loss of micronutrients is minimal with soft boiled and poached eggs, but you have to bare with the structure. Look who I finally got to hang out with IRL last night! . heartandbonesyoga and I have known each other from the online world for around 3-4 years so when she told me she was coming to LA for a family vacation & belated 40th birthday celebration and wanted to get together I was like “YAS!” . We’ve taught at so many of the same studios and been on lots of the same podcasts so of course we talked shop and I think I’ve convinced her to go to Disneyland while she’s here because #starwars ⭐️✨🪐 . I usually go to bed no later than 10 but we couldn’t stop talking and before we knew it it was almost midnight. I’m a bit tired today but sooo thrilled to have had such a wonderful evening. . I have had a lot of questions lately about my “changing rings” or new “bands”, so I thought I would share with everyone. . Yes I do have a very beautiful Vera Wang Love engagement ring, HOWEVER it’s not ideal to workout with jewelry. At least not for me! . I did a lot of research looking into “fitness bands” to wear while at the gym. I came across ensorings and the reviews were amazing. . I ordered a set for papapr1me and myself a few months ago and we LOVE them! I sometimes find I wear them more than my actual ring. 😅 They are so comfy and durable! I can go about my day and not have to worry about hurting them. . Not to mention, now that I’m not wearing my Vera Wang ring at the gym I can lift more! Your Tuesday reminder to KEEP GOING 🗣⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ You can't fail if you never quit. ✨ ⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ My weight loss journey has been anything but pretty. I don't always eat right and sometimes I skip workouts.⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ It's been almost a decade (ugghh I'm getting old 😩) since I started this process and if I've learned anything on this journey it's that you must LOVE YOURSELF at every stage. 💓⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ Self love is so important because no matter how much weight you lose, if you don't love and accept yourself, as you are, it will never be good enough. 👏🏾👏🏾⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ When you truly love yourself, you naturally take better care of yourself. It's not just about what you eat, what you do or even the number on the scale. It's about the thoughts and messages you send to yourself. 💭⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ Loving yourself means you don't beat yourself up because you messed up. It means you wake up the next day with an attitude to improve and treat your body with love, care, respect.⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ I definitely don't have all the answers and it's taken me a while to finally reach a point where I accept myself just as I am.⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ My body is far from perfect and that's okay. Phone died before I could complete recording my workout 😭 Today, I have changed up my lifts and it was a fresh reminder to change modalities often. What a game changer today! It is so important to provide new stimulus and to alter training protocol. This can help avoid injuries from overuse (similar to sports). Here are ways to change it up: • tempo of the lift (such as slowing down on either the concentric or eccentric part of the movement) • adding resistance bands • doing the same workout w h different equipment (TRX straps, kettlebells, cables, dumbbells) • trying a new group fitness class (yoga, pilates, kickboxing) • change the environment (inside vs. outside) • doing a friend’s workout • body position (standing, sitting, hinging, using a bench) What do you do to change it up in the gym? #eptx #elpasotx #elpasofitness #fitnessjourney #feelingSONIE #strongwomen #yogiswholift #strengthtraining #exerciseismedicine #acsmcertified

This is one activity that a soft belly breath would be counter productive for me. Because my body needs to be able to put out a lot of energy to manage the weight with control as I go down, and also as I power up to stand. So instead I utilize abdominal pressure for trunk stability and come into a sympathetic state in my nervous system. Check my last post when I break this down a bit. I do a big huge breath in, then pack it all into my abdomen and breathe shallowly when I need. Packing it back in. Now when I finish my set and come out from under the bar, I turn my breath focus to a focus on long exhales as calmly as I can manage. This brings me back towards a parasympathetic state. It important to be able to regulate between those two. And know when you need one or the other. Notice the next time you feel your belly is tight and you're breathing in through your top ribs. Do you need to be all amped up? Are you getting ready to fight or run away or lift some shit? Cool. Or are you stuck at your desk and stewing with some shallow breath? - in that case maybe some slow soft exhales could help pull the brain back into a different state and find a new perspective on things. POWER OF STILLNESS 🙏🏼 • • • • Life can throw a million and one things at us as soon as the day begins... stress can hit the moment we step out of bed. Notifications on our phones, emails, cat throwing up hairballs (this actually happened to me this morning 🙄), train delays, spilt coffee, stress stress stress stress stress!!!! So how do you make sure this doesn’t all build up and explode throughout the day? I have a little tip for you... relish in some stillness before you do ANYTHING else. Imagine the shock to our mind and body if we wake up and immediately get out of bed and try and handle all the things life has to throw at us? I mean, not really prepared are we? But a few moments of stillness, a few moments of reconnecting to yourself, becoming aware and focussed... a few moments to allow yourself to adjust to being wakeful and present... this can be the difference between having control over the rest of your day or simply ‘managing’... yes we can manage, we do it everyday 🙌🏼 but why not make life easier for yourself and start your day with calm and focus? We don’t want our fight or flight mode switched on all day, we don’t want to over work it, and stress triggers the switch! Pick one or two thing to improve your mental or physical health 1- Drink more water 2- Eat more vegetables 3- Take a power nap 4- Take a 20 minute brisk walk 5- Eat that cookie and ignore point 6 6- Consume less junk food/chips/candy/alcohol. You don’t have to cut it altogether. Portion control is hard to learn and just like anything else in life it will go with ups and down. 7- Go to bed 30 minutes earlier 8- Smile more 9- Declutter your wardrobe 10- Less tv/Netflix 11- Count your blessings 12- Try a free training session at a gym. If you’re worried about what people might think of you: Their thoughts won’t kill you. Most people are too preoccupied by their own thoughts and insecurities. Once I became a mother it was very clear my things had to be put away. Art supplies, books and yoga things are not ideal for little ones. Of course I was happy to play with my little ones but something was missing. “My” play, “my” space. . As a parent or caregiver it is easy to get lost in the helping and the doing. Always on the go and never finding that time and space for yourself. . Since we moved into our home last June, I’ve been slowly curating a space. A space filled with my “pretty little things” that make my heart beat faster. The things that in an instant can lift my moods. In our office I have started to create S P A C E for ME. . A space where I can go to relax, create and unwind. I must say when my therapist suggested I do this years ago I thought it was silly. I didn’t see the “need” to do it. I could get by without taking time and money for myself. As time went on without “my” space, I felt creatively blocked, disconnected from my right brain and just FOGGY. . I am happy to say since I have created my space I feel the flow of creativity coming back. Just being in my space for a few minutes changes my mood! . Today I want you to create space. It doesn’t need to be a room full. It could be the top of your dresser, a shelf, a side table. Just something that solely reflects you. . You're likely thinking, should I put more money toward my employer retirement plan, open an IRA, put more money towards paying off my car, my house, the list goes on. 🚘🏠💲 . The thing to keep in mind is that while everyone's financial situation is unique, there's a common foundational concept when it comes to successful wealth building and that's "paying yourself first". It doesn't refer to how you earn money but rather how you save money. . So before you allocate your paycheck to your spending plan (budget), pay your own savings and investment accounts FIRST. An ideal number to aim for is a minimum of 10% and ideally 15-20% of your income. The key is to put saving at the forefront of your financial plan and avoid the common mistake of saving what is left after spending.💰 If you don't yet have a savings of 3-6 months worth of living expenses, that's ok, but you likely want to avoid throwing surplus of money at your mortgage, car loan, etc to pay off those loans faster. It's a delicate dance when it comes to balancing lower interest debts and building financial security- that's where a financial mentor can help. .
