Are you getting the most out of every set? - It's not just about lifting a weight. It's about maximizing every contraction through each rep. - Firstly, become familiar with what the movement is meant to feel like, what muscles are meant to be contracting. - What tempo are you using? Do you understand the types of contractions which take part in every movement of the gym? - ECCENTRIC contraction - this is the lengthening of the muscle and the part of the movement where the muscle tears. Remember weight training in essence is damaging your muscle. With adequate protein within your food intake will allow your muscle to grow and repair. For example, the lengthening phase of a back squat would be the vertical drop towards the ground. - CONCENTRIC contraction - now take the back squat going from the ground up. In order for this movement to happen your quads and glutes need to contract and SHORTEN, enabling enough force to get from the fully lengthened position at the bottom of a squat. This is what people see as the power part of the movement. - Both contractions are equally as important as each other. Ensuring the load is testing you will impact the kind ofprogression you have in the gym. If you're not scared about your next set are you really challenging yourself? - TEMPO - a major part of movements in the gym which by some, is often neglected. Increasing the tempo through the lengthening phase of each movement will increase the amount that muscle has to work. Not only that, it will increase the amount of tears that take place at the working area/muscle. Now FORM and TEMPO go hand in hand, so please consider the execution of the exercise you're performing before you start to overload weight! - Hope this may help some of you! . --- A LITTLE DIFFERENT --- Hammer curls with kettlebells and kickbacks with kettlebells. What is that about? --- That's just me being a little crazy. I actually saw someone doing walking kettlebell isometric holds on a post of dr.joelseedman_ahp (check his IG out, amazing content). I noticed that it was insanely hard, even with 8kg bells, so I decided to make it kind of an exrcise. --- The hard part is really in the way you are holding, or actually insanely hard squeezing, the bells. Clearly it exposes the weakest link so for now its working on my grip strength (doing a 180kg deadlift without straps is not the same when it comes to gripstrength). --- Same goes for the kickbacks. TRAIN TO HEART RATE OR PACE? First of all if you're just starting out on your running journey you don't need to bother with lots of gadgets and technical stuff just go out there with the aim of running longer (time not mileage) and enjoy it. If you run regularly and are training for such an event as a marathon you will need to vary the effort you put into a run: long slow runs, tempo runs, intervals .. you can either measure your effort by looking at your pace or by looking at your heart rate. The advantage of running according to heart rate (zones) rather than pace is that you will run easy when you need to run easy and hard when you need to push into a higher heart rate zone. Your pace just shows you how quick you are but some days maintaining a certain pace may be harder than on other days and your pace is influenced by changes in terrain and surface you run on. Running according to HR will help with recovering from frequent running and building your cardiovascular system and endurance and overall progression throughout your training plan. Tried to keep a pace similar to rowing at 24 s/m but it’s really easy to increase that but with less power as you fatigue. Stuck around the 2:00/500m split time, and was just enough for me to send it on the last round. Pretty cool you can swap from the rower to the ski erg for this challenge, going to get some more kms on the ski erg! We've had a lot of people asking us how to put on weight and and gain mass lately, and we wanted to key you guys in on some of the ways we eat and train to continually grow and maintain our muscle mass. Right now, we are working with a bulk/lean bulk program where we are simply eating in a caloric surplus and eating around 1g of protein per our weight in pounds a day. Weighing about 195, you should aim for a goal of 195g of protein a day in order to aid in your muscle recovery after a workout and build muscle. This being said, that is a lot of protein to consume throughout a day, but as our bodies each differ in weight the amount of protein and calories to sustain and grow becomes variable. We've been experimenting with various proteins sources including; whey, isolate, and variations of plant based proteins and came across these complete protein pastas that we're slowly beginning to love. They are an easy way to add to your protein intake with 20g per serving with just the pasta alone. Adding a chicken breast or two can easily put you at 80g of protein just in one meal. This, in conjunction with whey protein after a workout, and other sources of protein throughout the day, makes reaching our daily intake a lot more feasible than before and there's no doubt that this will become a regular part of our diets. We finished off Hannah’s metabolic session with 20 explodes, 10 slam balls and a 200mt row (which she completes in 50 seconds 👏), 3 rounds through with 1min rest in between! 🥵 give it a crack to finish ya session off! Hannah’s in week 2 of my metabolic program!
