. Second progression in the single leg squat series. Focusing on proper control and hip activation in the #squat . 🎥1️⃣: With the #parallelsquat we're looking for the hips to do their job without relying on any external assistance. The most important thing here is that you want to maintain tension in the #hipflexors and the #quads throughout the entire movement. You don't want to just let gravity do all the work and drop into the bottom. While that full body tension isn't going to make or break your success at this point, these are the habits that you need to reinforce so that when you get to the point of adding external load to a heavy squat, it becomes second nature and you don't even have to think about it. To hit proper depth the femur should be parallel to the floor (or hips even with the knees). Clip is sped up 2x . Mastery: 5 x 15 . 🎥2️⃣: I was poking fun at the rep scheme of just three reps per leg on the previous #mobility drill in this series. That didn't last long 😅 If you perform these properly so that your entire body remains motionless, except for the working hip, three reps is PLENTY. Because of the focus and controlled, deliberate movement, the time under tension is substantial (this ended up being 30 sec per side). You also have to keep the abs firing hard throughout in order to prevent compensation at the lower back. You shouldn't see any arching there as you drive your knee out to the side . Mastery: 5 x 3 .
