As unbelievable as it sounds, mental visualization can be just as effective as physical action. - Vividly imagining yourself in a situation not only prepares your mind, but it also can improve the actual physical functions you are visualizing. - 🤔☁️🏋️‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️ - In one study, two groups of individuals either did a physical exercise or only imagined themselves doing the exercise. - After four weeks, the participants who actually worked out increased their strength by 30%. Meanwhile, the group that sat on their butts and imagined the workout increased their strength by 22%! - 🧠⭐️ - Visualization forces our mind into percieving that the action is actually being performed. The neurons that perform the movement are stimulated, and thus strengthened. - 💪🧬 - When these neural pathways become stronger, the mind is more efficient at contracting the muscles, leading to greater strength gains! - By putting visualization into use, you can not only enhance your physical body, but you can prime for any situation. I love when I get asked about what it took to become ______. Whether they ask about what it took to become a Green Beret, what it took to compete at rock crawling, or what it takes to find success, the answer is always the same. It’s a willingness to work, a willingness to invest now by doing the boring and redundant tasks which lead to success/mastery, and accepting that the reward will come later. I know that in the age of social media no one wants to hear that success comes from the boring tasks because that’s not sexy, usually they want to know the hot tricks and short cuts to get to the top. Here’s a secret, there are none. If you find one then you won’t have a foundation built on work and knowledge and your tenure at the top will be short lived. It’s the men and women who understand that success is found in the mastering of the basics who will scale the highest mountains, overcome the greatest obstacles, and journey farther than anyone else would have dared to imagine. Burn-out is most commonly defined by unusual fatigue/exhaustion, lack of motivation, and performance declines. . Truthfully, I think the word is overused and often misunderstood. What I’m really talking about when I say “burn out” is that you’re experiencing some signs that something in your life, or in your training IS NOT SUSTAINABLE. You likely won’t be able to keep up with all that you’re trying to do, and your body is giving you signs that it’s too much or not the right fit. . ASSESS YOURSELF: . 👉 Have you been feeling disinterested? 👉Lethargic? 👉Unmotivated? 👉Sickness & injury? 👉Having difficulty focusing? 👉Experiencing performance slumps? 👉Having mood swings? 👉Experiencing difficulty eating or resting? 👉Have you been withdrawing from your training partners, friends, family or significant other? . If you’re only noticing 1-2 of these, keep a pulse on them and make sure you’re aware of what shifts you make if your demands start to feel more unsustainable. . If you’re noticing several of these signs, then it’s likely time to make a change. Pay close attention to these signs and express your feelings and emotions before they become a bigger issue. . Having any of these feelings on occasion is normal and doesn’t necessarily mean you need to run away from your sport forever. But, these signs are often experienced because you are training or living at a pace that isn’t sustainable. . You might wonder how someone can get any work done in a loud coffee shop, while another person might be amazed that people dont go crazy from working in complete isolation and silence. - 🧠💥 - We all have the optimal environemtn that allows us to tap into our abiliites and achieve the most productivity. - It can be a small nook in the library, or the craziness of a stock-trading floor. - Some people perform best in high pressure situations, where they feel the most alive and their abilities peak. - Others need less arousal and a more controlled environemnt to perform at their best. - Individuals simply have different activation levels, so the thrill seeker and the contemplative thinker need their own environments that cater best to their preferences. - One stimulus that empowers one person may be too weak or too strong for another. Theres a number of different ariables that go into our optimal environment, and once we know ours, we should aim to work in that zone as much as possible.

• Five straight days of getting under the bar. It’s been a mindset shift for me this week. While running a business, working an internship, and some not so happy days this week I got it done. These workouts have become my anchor and given me another reason to get after it everyday. I get up with a little extra fire in my stomach for these training sessions. And with some tragic news earlier this week, getting under the bar has helped me cope and step away from what is going on outside of these walls. It’s important to have that escape in your life, where you can detach yourself mentally for a little bit. This week of workouts have done that for me, and I can say have helped me emotionally and given me a lot of motivation. Find that anchor and latch on to it. Keep grinding my friends. - First video is from yesterday’s workout, which were some easy triples at 55%,60%,65%, and 70%. Count the reps to make sure I did them all and let me know in the comments if I came up short. - Second video is from today. 90% for a single. This is the heaviest I have done in a while and it felt really smooth. - Last video was the last set of squats at 85% for a triple. Also the heaviest triple I have done in some time. - Feeling good going into next week and looking forward to some recovery this weekend. Bootcamp and Brews at idlehandsbeer this Sunday! Most of the students that we work with have no idea how their bodies work. They have no idea how their brains work. When it comes to the complex interplay of body and brain they have been given no baseline information whatsoever. ~ They’re not sure how to fuel their bodies for optimal performance. ~ They’re not sure how to move their bodies for basic health, physical fitness and mental wellbeing. ~ The neurochemical components of “mental health” have never been presented in any shape, form or fashion. ~ When they’re tired at 2pm they have on idea why. ~ When they’re anxious at 3:15am they can trace this feeling back to no root cause whatsoever. ~ They understand what depression “feels” like but have no idea what it “looks” like on a neurological level. As a result they have no idea how to alter their neurological state to feel better. ~ They don’t have a single tool that can’t be purchased from a coffee shop, pharmacy or drug dealer to manage how they feel. And, here’s the kicker-the majority of adults that are raising and educating them are in the exact same boat. ~ We need to have a new conversation on youth mental health. People want to be around other people that are comfortable being open and a bit vulnerable. Ever had a conversation with someone who wouldn’t give their view (politics, religion, whatever) until you have given yours? How much did you trust that person? If the goal is truly progress, then you will have to live with a lot of undesirable outcomes. It’s an inherent part of trying to grow and push yourself beyond your comfort zone. - One great way of getting yourself out of your comfort zone is going all in. Giving 100% to something means that you’re not holding back anything and you’re jumping off with no safety net. Sometimes it works out great, sometimes it doesn’t. - When it doesn’t, it’s extremely painful. Chances are you made it known to others that this is something you really want. Chances are while fully applying yourself, you started thinking about what it would be like to achieve that outcome that you want. And then all of the sudden you don’t. It sucks. - You might say, well, if I don’t give 100%, it won’t hurt as bad if I fail. Maybe in the short-term. But in the long-term? You’ll pay the price. If you don’t give 100%, then you have to live with uncertainty and regret. You won’t know how things would have turned out had you fully applied yourself. Therefore you can’t properly and effectively learn from that situation because there are too many hypotheticals involved. - Despite the pain, “failing” while giving 100% still pushes you forward. It’s not true failure because you learn and get better. You can look back at the situation and know what you need to fix. You don’t have to worry about your effort level, or how things would have been different, because you gave it lol you had in that moment. You’re naturally pushed forward. - So do yourself a favor. Keep working on giving 100%. Own those efforts, despite the pain that might come with it. You never expected growth to be easy, so don’t give up when it gets hard. Keep learning, keep growing. You’ll like who you become in the process.
