Other times, you lose a game while playing extremely well. - By judging yourself by your own inner scoreboard, you allow yourself to not be blinded by what’s happening on the outside and continuously progress. - The focus on your own inner scoreboard allows you to become independent of the outcome and simply get better every single time. - Every opportunity that comes across your way becomes a chance to be the best version of yourself, given the circumstances, rather than an external win or loss. - Figure out your inner scoreboard and hold yourself to it. Hello everyone! This is my introduction post! First and foremost, welcome to my new fitness page directed at motivation, health, and fitness. My goals with this page are to post at least 3 times a week about nutrition, workouts, exercises, motivation, and mental health strategies! A little about me..... I am a 26 (almost 27) year old Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach. I currently work in the private sector, but help out as an intern with a Division 1 college! I have experience working with athletes who are 10 years old, all the way up to professional athletes in a variety of different sports. I also am currently the Head Strength and Conditioning coach for the Bozeman NA3HL team, the Bozeman Icedogs. In my free time I go to school (Masters Program) for Sports Psychology where i plan on becoming a Certified Mental Performance Coach. The problem is when we refuse to acknowledge the progress we are making with every step ... Because we assume it is an all or nothing process. . . Have you ever resisted setting a goal in the first place because you feared the disappointment if you did not achieve it? 😳 Setting goals is important because it gives us direction 🧭 towards something better that we desire... . . Each move we make towards our goals is an accomplishment and should be celebrated 🙌. When we take time to pause, reflect, and celebrate along the way we allow space to acknowledge the wonderful things we have experienced and done. 💪 If we focus only on the destination, we miss the wonderful things that may not have even been a possibility when we set or goal. . . Learning a difficult piece of music, completing a big project at work, overcoming a large deficit to a good team. Many people fold under the pressure of these tasks. Elite performers take things step-by-step. They don’t tackle the entire task, but instead break things down to manageable pieces. They learn one line of music, complete one presentation slide, focus on the play they are in. They do all they can to win that piece of the task before moving on to the next. ⁣⁣⁣🏋🏼‍♂️My 20s as a DI and then pro athlete was filled with plyometrics, Olympic lifts, and heavy everything but particularly squatting. ⁣ ⁣ 🙋🏻‍♀️Now, in my 30s and no longer competing, no longer being told to workout, and no longer with the same energy or metabolism for that matter...⁣ ⁣ ☑️My workouts have shifted focus from strength and power to stability and mobility. (I still incorporate heavy weights, explosive movements, and Olympic lifting to my routine...they’re just not the meat of my workout programming).⁣ ⁣ 🏆Here’s a little warmup circuit I did this morning (3x10 reps for each movement):⁣ ⁣ 1. Bosu overhead med ball woodchop⁣ ➡️Squatting on a Bosu helps me with poor ankle mobility; I’m able to squat deeper while maintaining form.⁣ ⁣ 2. Dumbbell dead bugs⁣ ⁣ 3. Dumbbell bird dog rows⁣ ➡️Maintain stability in your core. This is a great multifaceted exercise.⁣ ⁣ 4. Banded push-ups ➡️Bands help me maintain form and go deeper into the movement. ⁣ 5. Bosu glute stability⁣ to lunging curl to press⁣ ⁣ 6. A question that I got asked recently, and it really made me think… here is how I responded: Myself. I think that the biggest thing is that I made the decision to be great. I never viewed myself as cocky or arrogant but more so confident in my preparation and my mindset. I hated losing… in anything. Still do. But I knew the amount of work that I needed to put in, and I did it. I would push myself SO hard in workouts, I watched what I ate, I would grind in practice just like matches, I would make everything a competition, I would consciously make the decision to give it 100% all of the time, no matter what. Did I always want to practice? No. Did I always want to do extra conditioning or stadiums? No. Did I always enjoy eating healthy? No. Great athletes do things that average athletes don't want to do. Great athletes make the decision to do it because they want to get better. They want to push themselves. Average athletes make up excuses. At the end of the day, you get one life. One chance to be the best athlete and the best human being you can possibly be. When your athletic career ended, you could just FEEL IT IN YOUR BONES. It was as if a part of you just drifted away in that moment. For some, it may have felt like a piece of you died right then and there—this was my experience. ⠀ While your sport was your life up until this point, you also knew, deep down, that you had to move forward and that you were choosing to LET GO of your athlete identity. 🔥 ⠀ Whether your choice was based on negative or traumatic experiences or simply because you felt more aligned with roles outside of sport—this choice was YOURS TO MAKE. 🙌🏼 ⠀ However, despite this courageous choice, you find yourself stumbling through life after sport, unable to commit to healthier choices like a certain type of exercise or gym membership. You’ve wasted countless cash and felt serious stress about getting off the couch to make it to the workout class you signed up for! 😰 ⠀ You also may not be able to recognize when you are full so you finish the whole box of cheez its and are left feeling sick and ashamed with your face stuck to the couch cushion. 😵 ⠀ You have no clue WHO YOU ARE NOW and what the HEALTHIEST YOU looks like in this life after sport. ⠀ If this is you, you are NOT ALONE. An athlete mentioned this during a session not too long ago. It definitively isn't the first time someone has asked me this and it will probably not be the last. Remember! When talking about mental performance, there is no right and wrong, only functional and dysfunctional and everyone functions differently. Sometimes, doubt helps you prepare better. Fear of failing makes you work harder and anger gives you more energy. The real question you should ask whenever you feel like something is wrong with you is: "is this making me better or worse at what I do?". If the answer is "better", keep going!
